Reflection

I often shared anticipated travel ideas with my father. This trip to South Africa was one of the last trips we discussed. Unfortunately, he passed before I could make the trip. So, in honor of him, I decided to wear this pin and just take him along with me.

Returning from South Africa was difficult. Being unable to discuss my experiences with him was the hardest task involved in the whole experience. However, as it draws nearer to the anniversary of his death, I celebrate his adventuresome nature that he left with me....

Day 13 Last Day in Cape Town... Neethlingshof, Kaymandi, and then...

We began this day at the market. Some people wanted to pick up a few more items.  A few of us needed to get more luggage for all the items we had already bought... LOL

After the market, we went to Neethlingshof Wine Estate. Below is a photo of the trees leading to the winery. If these trees are non indigenous, they will have to be removed due to new legislation in South Africa. According to what we were informed, all non indigenous trees will be removed over time.  

On the way home, we took a tour through Kaymandi, a township near Stellenbosch.

We returned to Marsh Memorial and packed. After over 1300 pictures, we were off to the airport to return home.

Day 12 Cape Point, Cape of Good Hope, and Peguin Island

This day we visited Cape Point, Cape of Good Hope, and Penguin Island. Cape Point is where the Indian and Atlantic Oceans meet. I was feeling a little under the weather by this day. It was cool and kinda rainy. None the less, I made the best of it. Thanks to Lira, Courtney, and Joshua spending the day with us.

Yes I walked to the top, believe it or not... LOL

On the top, it was quite windy, but beautiful.

This babbon was in the parking lot when we came down from the lighthouse. The babbon attacked my classmate for a bag of chips. The babbon was able to get whatever that is he or she is eating.

It was a little babbon family.

Cape of Good Hope is the most south western point of the Africa.

After Cape of Good Hope we stopped by Pegiun Island.

Below is the view on the drive home. It too was amazing.

Day 11 Safari and Moyo Day

So, some people believe wild animals (lions, tigers, giraffes and bears) are just running around in Africa. Well, in my experience that is not the case at all. We had to drive over an hour to see wild animals in captivity, but free roaming (kinda seems like an oxymoron). We went to the Cape Big 5 Safaris at Fairy Glen.

Yep, It was cold that morning.

Our guide was named Dennis. Dennis was able to get us up close and personal with the animals.  In one cause, we were really close. My classmate made a sudden move to get a better picture. It rushed toward us… LOL… It was not that funny at the time, but shortly afterwards, it was hilarious… LOL

This is Wendy's head, my classmate. You would think she would have learned after the elephant incident... LOL  Still,  the animals were amazing.

Later we went to Moyo at Spier’s Wine Estate. Moyo has a festival type atmosphere which includes food, face painting, and live entertainment.
